Bryon L. Merade
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Merade founded Caldera in April 2002, and focuses on corporate strategy, portfolio development and intellectual property. In 1997, Mr. Merade founded Surgical Solutions, Inc. which he built into a successful medical device distribution organization focused on Gynecology and Urology technologies. Prior to founding Surgical Solutions, he served as Director of U.S. Sales for BEI Medical Systems, a publicly traded manufacturer of devices for the Gynecology market prior to its acquisition by Boston Scientific. While at BEI, Mr. Merade had complete responsibility for the company’s U.S. sales operations, which represented 88% of BEI’s revenue. He led a team of 70 sales representatives, 15 distributors and 20 inside sales professionals. Mr. Merade began his career with Integra Precision Corporation as a Regional Sales Manager, where he had sales management responsibilities in numerous states and developed his region into the company’s largest revenue producing and most profitable area. Mr. Merade received his M.B.A. from the University of Southern California, his B.S. in Business Administration from Regis University, and an A.S. in Criminal Justice from Moorpark College.
Jeffrey S. Hubauer
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Hubauer joined Caldera in 2017 and is responsible for the R&D, Manufacturing, QA/RA, Customer Service, Supply Chain, HR, Recruiting, IT and Facilities functions. Most recently, Mr. Hubauer was Vice President of Business Development at Zyomed Corp., a startup focused on innovative diabetes devices, and he was responsible for strategic planning, business operations and strategic partnerships. Prior to Zyomed, Mr. Hubauer was at Medtronic for 15 years in the Cardiac Surgery and Diabetes Divisions. During his career at Medtronic, he held the positions of Vice President & General Manger Type 2 Diabetes Business (startup business), Vice President & General Manager of the Insulin Delivery Business (global market leader with $1.5B revenue) and Vice President Manufacturing & Supply Chain Diabetes Division. He played significant roles in growing and scaling Medtronic Diabetes from $500M to $2B in revenue. Mr. Hubauer has an M.B.A. from Lehigh University and a B.S. in Business Logistics from The Pennsylvania State University.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Hochman joined Caldera in 2017 and is responsible for Finance, Accounting, Strategic Planning and Corporate Development. Prior to being named interim CFO, Mr. Hochman consulted to Caldera for two years on strategy and Corporate Development and helped lead the acquisition of Urologix. Previously, he was Senior Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development at Ventura Foods, a $2.5 billion food manufacturer serving customers such as Sysco, McDonald’s, Costco and Walmart. Prior, Mr. Hochman consulted to over a dozen companies on strategy, M&A and international expansion. Mr. Hochman also lead the European expansion of ViSalus Sciences, the fastest growing direct sales company in the world in 2012. He served as VP of M&A and Strategic Planning for Herbalife International and served as an Investment Analyst at Omninet Capital, a $1 billion Venture Capital and Private Equity firm. Mr. Hochman also served as a Management Consultant at L.E.K. Consulting advising FORTUNE 500 firms on strategy and M&A. Mr. Hochman earned his M.B.A. at the University of Houston, completed coursework at Boston University’s International Management Program, earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin and completed Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business Executive Education in Mergers & Acquisition.
Vice President, Portfolio Strategy
Sandra is an expert in commercialization of new medical technologies with 15+ years in the healthcare arena. Joining Caldera Medical as the 6th employee in 2006, Sandra has played an instrumental role in building the company from early stage to a high growth commercial business leading multiple areas including Marketing, Inside Sales, Research and Development, and Manufacturing. She has worked closely with leading physicians to develop and launch multiple new medical devices. Early in her career, Sandra held a variety of positions in global and U.S. Marketing at large companies including Guidant and St. Jude Medical. Sandra is a healthcare executive who brings years of general management experience to each new role. Ms. Muhlfeld holds a B.S. in Physical Therapy from the University of Connecticut and an M.B.A from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Vice President, U.S. Sales
Mr. Keeffe joined Caldera in 2016, and is responsible for all domestic sales functions. Mr. Keeffe came to us from Baxter International, where he was Area Sales Director, BioSurgery Division, responsible for the Western third of U.S. Sales, leading eight Region Managers and 62 sales professionals. Prior to Baxter, Mr. Keeffe led all U.S. Sales for Spectranetics Corporation, focusing on the adoption of excimer laser technology for coronary and peripheral arterial disease, leading eight Region Managers and 66 sales professionals. Mr. Keeffe’s extensive medical device commercialization experience began at Boston Scientific where he gained international sales training experience prior to joining EKOS, a medical device start-up organization. Mr. Keeffe has a B.S. in Business Administration from Arizona State University.
Vice President, International Sales
Mr. Lucero joined Caldera in 2017 and is responsible for all International Sales. Mr. Lucero came to us from the Promedon Group, a medical device technology manufacturer focused in Urology, Urogynecology and Pediatric Urology. Mr. Lucero was CEO at Promedon in Brazil for 5 years where he led a team of 120 multi-disciplinary professionals. Before that position he was responsible for International Sales, leading Promedon’s expansion in Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America inclusive of opening new Business Units in multiple geographies. Prior to Promedon, Mr. Lucero was with Arcor Group for 12 years, a world class food manufacturer, where he led International Development and opened subsidiary companies in the US and Latin America as Regional Director. Mr. Lucero holds a B.A. in International Business and Business Administration from the Universidad del Pacifico, Chile and attended post graduate courses in Strategic Planning from ISE, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Director of Accounting
Mr. Kothari joined Caldera in 2010 and oversees the Finance and Accounting functions of the company. Prior to Caldera, Mr. Kothari was Corporate Controller at JSM, a privately held real estate development company, where he headed the Finance, Accounting and Management Information Systems. At JSM, Mr. Kothari managed the Accounting & Reporting for as many as 15 LLCs in addition to budgeting, treasury management, tax planning and annual audits. Previous to JSM, Mr. Kothari was Assistant Controller at Citysearch, an online City Guide and a wholly-owned subsidiary of InterActive Corp. At Citysearch, Mr. Kothari was instrumental in building the Accounting department from the ground up, establishing internal controls and policies. Mr. Kothari was the point person to the CFO during the CitySearch IPO process and oversaw SEC reporting post IPO. Mr. Kothari holds a B.S. in Accounting from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
Vice President, Quality & Regulatory Affairs
Vicki has been with Caldera Medical since its inception in 2002. She is currently responsible for the quality and regulatory functions. Vicki has played a key role in growing Caldera to where it is today including obtaining FDA clearance for nearly every device marketed by Caldera. She has previously led Manufacturing, Human Resources, Customer Service functions at Caldera. Prior to Caldera, Vicki worked for a medical device distribution company for several years and 14 years in the cosmetic industry in various Sales and Customer Service roles which also has FDA requirements. She earned an AS in Legal Studies from Oxnard College and has completed the first half of the requirements for her law degree from Ventura College.
Vice President, Research & Development
Dr. Manish Vaishya joined Caldera in 2017 to head Research and Development, Design Engineering and program management. Dr. Vaishya has broad experience in class II and III biotech companies, having led large R&D, IP management, project management and manufacturing teams. In his previous role as CTO at medical device startup that raised nearly $55 million, he focused on implantable and programmable drug infusion pumps. Prior to this, he helped develop industry leading cochlear implant systems at Advanced Bionics, resulting in a series of successful market launches. Beside medical devices, he has worked for Siemens and Suzuki, bringing a broad knowledge of robust design and quality standards. His knowledge spans multi-disciplinary engineering, project management, regulatory landscape, product validation, risk management, design controls, manufacturing process development and business planning. He has authored numerous patents and he brings a spirit of entrepreneurship, combined with rigorous disciplined product development. Dr. Vaishya has a doctorate in mechanical engineering from The Ohio State University, an MBA in international marketing and a Bachelor from Indian Institute of Technology.
Vice President, Operations
Bahar joined Caldera Medical in 2017 as the Vice President of Operations. Bahar is a product development and operations professional with 17+ years of experience in new product introduction, technology transfer, manufacturing scale up, and supply chain. She started her career in R&D at Medical Research Group, which was later acquired by Medtronic Diabetes. At Medtronic, Bahar led several development and operations teams, and she was responsible for introducing MiniLinkTM and EnliteTM family of products to the market. Bahar is a co-inventor of seventeen patents related to formulation of enzymes and related packaging and manufacturing methods. She holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from Loyola Marymount University and an MBA from University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
